Privacyscaping Privacy Screening

As the building lots get smaller here in Washington County Maryland homeowners are looking for privacyscaping to help screen their property so they can enjoy time on the deck, patio and swimming pool.

One of the popular privacy screen evergreens that is used here in Hagerstown MD is the Leyland Cypress which can offer privacy screening but comes with some issues.

The main issue is that the Washington County Maryland area is on the northern fringe of the acceptable range and in some year we have die out from the cold which is pictured here.

If less than 50% of the Leyland is green / alive our recommendation is to remove that Leyland Cypress.

There are also issues with the Leyland Cypress every year when the Leyland Cypress matures and encroaches on the neighbors property and due to the large nature of the Leyland Cypress starts to kill the neighbors grass from excess shading from the Leyland Cypress and that the Leyland Cypress was planted to close to the property line here in Smithsburg MD.

There are some wonderful evergreens that will work for privacyscaping here in Clear Spring MD and if you elect to use the Leyland Cypress there is over 50% chance that they will freeze out at some point and die.
