The 2019 Michael L. Reid Volunteer of the Year Award Sponsored by Grosh’s Lawn Service and Karen and Tom Grosh Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company

Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company Awards Banquet January 25, 2020

2019 marks the 11th year that Karen and I have sponsored the Michael L. Reid Volunteer of the Year Award.

The background on the Michael L Reid Award.

Mike Reid has dedicated his life to the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company and the Clear Spring Community
Mike joined the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company on November 11, 1979.

Karen and I wanted to honor Mike for his dedication and we found no better way than to name an award in his honor and select a firefighter who goes above the call of duty as Mike has demonstrated in his years of service to our community.

Past Recipients of the Michael L. Reid Volunteer of the Year Award are:

2009 Frank Kimble
2010 Chief Michael L. Reid
2011 Rick Rowe
2012 Cheryl Brumbaugh
2013 Mark Schlotterbeck
2014 Kerrington M. Gray
2015 Zachary P. Reid
2016 Charles L. Mundey
2017 Charles L. Mundey
2018 Jacob T. Altman (JT)

This years recipient is a 7 year member of our Company who responded to 257 alarms. This was 56% of our emergency calls during 2019. He is one of only two members who responded to at least half of all our calls.

JT spends most every evening and overnight at the station. In addition, he normally covers a duty firefighter position from Saturday 0800 through Sunday 0800. He makes sure the apparatus and Station are clean and all equipment is in working order. He helped with the organization of the Company Drill’s.

JT has handled most all of the smoke detector installs this past year. He is one of the most selfless, dedicated and hard working individuals you could find anywhere. He’s everyone's go to guy when something needs done. No matter what task he’s assigned you can rest assured it will be completed to the best of his ability. No one deserves this recognition more than him. This is what he loves to do and we are very fortunate to have him here.
