We need to know
the pH level in the soil. The soil pH goes from 0-14 with 7 being the optimum level.
If the soil pH is
low the plants will not be able to take in all the nutrients that the plant requires
or needs.
If the soil is
less than 7 the soil is acidic and if it is above 7 is basic or alkaline.
The movement of
one whole number on a soil sample (over a period of time) pH scale represents a
change by a factor of 10. So from 6 to 7 the means the soil is now 10 times
less acidic.
The soil test will
tell us if the soil has any deficiencies.

Soil Test Results Example
The BIG THREE on a
soil test report is nitrogen (N) phosphorus (P) potassium (K) levels. NPK will be on every bag of fertilizer.
If your soil requires
lime (after soil test results) some pelletized limestone are manufactured to
dissolve as soon as they receive moisture (water). This allows the limestone to
work into the soil faster. We use and recommend this type of limestone first!
As you can see the
FIRST item on the list should be a soil test so that we know what the soil has
and what the soil is lacking in.
