                                    Hummingbirds Feeding and Migrating  When should you take your hummingbird feeders down here in Washington County Maryland? A common old wise tale says that if you leave your hummingbird feeders up after the start of fall, hummingbirds will not migrate. This is simply not true wise tale. Hummingbirds migrate due to environmental cues. Every so often some will overwinter here in Maryland. These birds either were blown off course or are inexperienced youngsters. After October 2nd, if you don't see any signs of activity around your hummingbird feeders and no visiting for 2 weeks, then it is usually safe to take down your hummingbird feeders for the season as the hummingbirds have migrated for the year.  Make sure you clean your hummingbird feeders good before winter storing.
