A friendly reminder that August is a great time to have Grosh’s Lawn Service mulch your landscaping beds since mulch helps conserve valuable soil moisture during this time of year. By mulching now, you will not only have to water less, but, when you do water, the much helps keep the water from evaporating.
Contact Tom now to schedule your landscape mulching for your home, office, church grounds or commercial property in Washington County, Maryland.

BEES, WASPS, HORNETS... OH MY! |
|
We come upon bees, wasps, and hornets mostly when trimming shrubs, believe it or not. It is very seldom that we get stung while mowing a lawn or string trimming. You will want to watch out for yellow jackets and hornets this time of year as the colonies are growing larger by the day. We find yellow jackets’ nests throughout yards and we usually find them the hard way... yes, by getting stung! Remember to look out for the bald-faced hornet as they generally build papery nests, sometimes extremely large nests, in trees and shrubs. We found one nest last season after leaves had fallen. We mowed and string trimmed under the tree all season and never knew the hornets’ nest was there because of the leafy canopy on the tree. Please be aware that bald-face hornets can and oftentimes sting multiple times. Here is one you want to watch out for, the Hornet's Nest, Oh My! |

JAPANESE BEETLES Be on the lookout for Japanese beetles as the beetles will be eating some tree and shrub leaves and can cause some very serious damage. Why not eliminate the Japanese beetles and this will lessen the grubs next season? We look at this solution as a win-win. Contact Tom today if you find a significant amount of Japanese beetles on your roses and crape myrtles, as they will seriously affect these plants.

GOT GRUBS? Remember, if you keep seeing a skunk in your lawn or smelling one at night, the skunk may be scouting for the grubs in your lawn.
If you haven't seen traces of skunks in the event, but are finding tiny holes in your lawn, wildlife may be digging the grubs out of the lawn.
While you may think it is a win-win that the wildlife are removing the grubs from the lawn, having animals dig up your lawn at night is actually doing even more damage to your lawn and that will add on more cost when it comes time to repair.
The best thing to do is email Tom today and stop the wildlife from destroying your lawn by eradicating the grubs once and for all. This makes the most sense and is a very wise investment. |
