Tree removal and proper tree selection for Hagerstown, MD
Are you thinking
about removing a tree or planting a tree this year in Washington County MD, Williamsport MD Greencastle PA or Falling Waters WV?
Did you know that there
are trees that you should not plant?
Think before you
plant!
We call them the “undesirable
trees”. Tom and the team can help you make the right selection and the right place for us to plant the tree.
The trees that you
do not want to plant are Bradford pear, silver maple, tree of heaven, black
locust, empress tree, sycamores, poplars, box elder, mulberry, willows,
Siberian elm, catalpa. We know from our experience that the characteristics of
these trees include: always dropping large qualities of debris, weak wood prone
to breakage, shallow roots that damage mowers, blacktop, hardscape, lawns,
irrigation systems and night lighting. Reseeding is also a major problem with
some of these varieties of trees as well.
A large vertical crack in this Hackberry tree. This tree should be removed ASAP.
We know first had
about all of these trees because some clients have these undesirable trees and
have to pay to have all the debris picked up each time we mow if we get any type
of wind or storm. Most clients over time give up clean all the debris and just
pay to have it done because it becomes so exhausting and time consuming.
I spoke with client about this Silver Maple tree who lives in California about the issues with the tree and this is what we found after cutting down the tree.
As a general rule
of thumb if over 50% of the tree is dead,
the tree should be removed and replaced with a desired tree in the right place.
Remember when selecting the proper place to plant “ Right Plant Right Place”.
This will add value to your property when planted correctly and in the correct
location.
If you budget
allows, the dying tree can be left and removal of just the dead limbs can be
done but over time this does get quite expensive.
The list of
reasons a tree should be removed are vast and as simple as the tree is dead or
the tree is large and handing over the house.
Another main reason
the tree should be removed is if it is a
undesirable tree that you will spend all of your free time cleaning up the
heavy debris that will fall in high winds or heavy snow or ice. You will then
have to contend with all of the trees debris to haul away.
Leaning trees,
large trees under power lines, trees that were topped, vertical cracks down the
main trunk, fungi, confined space of the tree (between sidewalk and blacktop in
some cases), trees growing to close together are some of the other reasons a
tree should be removed.
This maple tree should be removed for what reasons?
1-Tree was planted to close to the power line and pole
2- Tree has a bad lean to it
3- Tree has decayed inside trunk
If you feel bad
because you are removing a tree all you have to do is have a new tree planted
and you will balance nature back out.
If fungi is
growing on the tree it is a good indication of internal rot according to
Virginia Williams at Extension U of MD Edu.
