Weeds do grow in the winter in some landscape beds here in the Hagerstown MD area.

Winters weeds include deadnettle, bittercress, henbit and chickweed. Perennial weeds like clover, wild violets and dandelions will also grow in the winter.

Winter weeds will flower in March, but if the temperatures are warm enough in February they may start blooming.

Mulching helps with keeping winter weeds from germinating on the bare soil. If the mulch beds only have a thin layer of mulch winter weeds can and will germinate and flourish.
