Need a new Paver Sidewalk in Hagerstown, MD!

Image
A Paver Sidewalk from Start to Finish! A proper base is required for any successful hardscape project. You cannot "just cut a little soil" and lay the pavers. The base has to be solid so that the hardscape has a firm surface to build upon.  Compaction of the base is a must and can not be skipped to speed up the job and in the end giving the customer a shoddy/sloppy job! A string line and levels are required to get the project right the first time. Sand is then swept into the space between the bricks to fill all small gaps. We match the brick to the already installed landscape stone. Top soil was installed along the bricks and seed with grass seed. The only part the customer has to help with is water the need seed soil. The finished harsdscape sidewalk. Customer was asked if they wanted shrub trimmed back off new sidewalk and they did not want shrub trimmed back. The finished hardscape sidewalk. Completed On-Time and In-Budget! ...

A tree on a hill in Hagerstown, MD?

Image
When the decision is made to plant this tree on this hill not thought was give to how the tree would mature. You have to remember that you do not plant the tree with the slope of the ground. The back side (left side) of the hole should have need dug deeper and away from the tree if the tree had to be planted there. I would not recommend planting a tree on this steep slope.  This tree will keep growing like this until it gets top heavy (unless it is trimmed and thinned) and blows over in high winds. The tree will not be able to enhance the beauty of this home because it was planted wrong from the beginning. Right Plant, Right Place! Think Before You PLANT!

Shrub & Tree Trimming and Thinning in Hagerstown, MD

Image
It’s that time of year to trim up and shape up!  I’m talking about your trees and shrubs. Now is the time to schedule your fall trimming and thinning of trees and shrubs!  A tree left to grow and neglected is like planting a garden and not weeding or watering! Now that most of the leaves have fallen the limbs will be bare and allow for proper selection of removal of any limbs to thin the tree of limbs crossing each other. All trees and shrubs need pruning/trimming at some point in their life. This allows the tree or shrub to maintain the proper shape and balance and not have drooping limbs or branches.  Trimming of shrubs allows the shrubs to maintain the proper size for the area they are located and to help maintain proper growth on the entire shrub. The tree below looked OK to the customer, but after explaining the tree was in declining health the customer listened to our suggestion and had had us remove the tree. This is what the inside of the tree looke...

Leyland Cypress Evergreen Trees in Hagerstown, MD

Image
Photo Credit Tom Grosh/Grosh's Lawn Service   When considering planting a "privacy" hedge, some consideration should be given to your neighbors as not planting the Leyland's to close to the property line. When the Leyland's mature they will encroach on the neighbors property if planted with-in feet of the property line. Also you should give consideration to the height you will allow the Leyland"s to grow to because after they reach over 7' tall they will start to shade out the ground on the north side of the evergreens. This could mean your neighbors property will not receive enough sunlight to sustain growth of grass or other shrubs. This could also be you own property if you planted them on the south side of your property. I have seen the  devastating  effects from improper planting of Leyland Cypress and the problems caused because "it's my property and I will plant the Leyland's as close to the property line as I want". Tre...
